What's free
Everything you need to do Japanese interval walking is in the free app:
- The classic session: 3 minutes fast, 3 minutes easy, 5 rounds, with an optional warm-up and cool-down.
- Voice and vibration cues at every switch, on time with your iPhone locked and your music or podcast playing.
- The Lock Screen Live Activity and Dynamic Island: fast or easy, the time left and your round, without unlocking.
- Saving every walk to Apple Health as a walking workout.
- Your weekly walk goal, your streak, every stamp and the monthly challenge.
- This month's calendar, with every day you walked.
There is no paywall before your first walk, none during a walk, and no ads.
What Pro adds
Pro is for people who walk regularly and want to look back or get a little help staying on track:
- Walk log: tap any day in your calendar to see that day's walks: start time, minutes and rounds.
- Past months: earlier months' calendars and totals (walks, minutes, rounds).
- Streak Shield: up to 2 busy days a month won't reset your streak.
- 4-week ramp: an opt-in program that starts with fewer rounds and builds up to the full walk.
Pro doesn't change the walk itself. Nobody gets better cues or a longer session by paying.
Which plan should you pick?
- Not sure yet: stay on free. Walk for a few weeks and see whether the habit sticks. You lose nothing by waiting.
- You walk most weeks: the yearly plan is the best value, and the 7-day trial lets you try Pro first.
- You'd rather not commit: monthly, and cancel whenever you like.
- You don't like subscriptions: lifetime, $29.99 once. It costs about 18 months of the yearly plan.
Free trial, discounts and deals
- Free trial: the yearly plan starts with 7 days free for new subscribers. Cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends and you won't be charged.
- No weekly plan. Weekly plans look cheap and cost more over a year. We don't offer one.
- No countdown sales. You won't see “offer ends in 10 minutes” timers or discounts that only appear when you try to leave.
- Discount codes: there are none at launch. If we ever run a promotion, it will be in the App Store, and this page will say so.
How much does Japanese walking cost?
The method itself is free. Japanese interval walking needs comfortable shoes and a way to keep time, nothing else: no gym, no equipment, no membership. Ways to time it, from free to paid:
- Free: our web timer in your browser (keep the screen on), or a phone timer restarted at every switch.
- Free: the NipponWalk app, which runs the whole walk with your phone locked.
- Optional: NipponWalk Pro, for your walk history, the Streak Shield and the 4-week ramp.

Billing, cancelling and refunds
- Billing: purchases go through your Apple Account. NipponWalk never sees your card details, and there is no NipponWalk account to create.
- Renewal: subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the period.
- Cancelling: iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions, or NipponWalk → Settings → Manage subscription. You keep Pro until the end of the period you paid for.
- Refunds: Apple handles refunds. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
- New phone: NipponWalk → Settings → Restore purchases.
The full subscription terms are in the Terms of Use.
Frequently asked questions
Is NipponWalk free?
Yes. The full Japanese interval walk, the voice cues with your phone locked, the Lock Screen Live Activity and Apple Health saving are free, with no time limit. Pro is an optional upgrade.
Do I need Pro to do the 3-3-5 walk?
No. The standard 3-minute fast, 3-minute easy, 5-round session is free and always will be.
Will I be charged when the free trial ends?
Yes, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. After 7 days the yearly plan renews at $19.99 a year.
Is there a weekly plan?
No. The plans are $3.99 a month, $19.99 a year, or $29.99 once.
Can I switch from a subscription to lifetime?
Yes. Buy lifetime in the app, then cancel your subscription in iOS Settings so it doesn't renew. Apple doesn't cancel it automatically.
Does NipponWalk have ads or sell my data?
No ads, no account, and no selling data. Your walks stay on your iPhone and in Apple Health. See the privacy policy.
